Let's get to know the Author of the Week

Rebecca Rohman

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

"I am a wife and designer currently living in the Northeastern United States. I was a former Sales Manager for a tourist magazine, and for many years prior, I first did Marketing for a jewelry company, and later a fine wine distributor.
I love the ocean, hence the seahorses in my logo. My favorite colors are white and pink."

Which genre do you write?

"Adult Contemporary Romance
Romantic Suspense"

Who or what inspired you to write?

"About fifteen years ago, I started writing my first romance novel, Uncorked just to purely entertain myself. It was not until early in 2012 when I decided to complete it, and share it with the world.
I’d sit up for hours researching everything from the law to exotic locations, culture and crime and jobs to medical diseases. I took the time to research how difficult situations in one’s life shape their psyche, how they interact with others, how they form relationships.  In the end, I produced a book that I am proud of. I realized that I enjoy the process of writing, from thinking of creative ways to use my words, to doing the necessary research. This process made me mostly discover something about myself. I enjoy creating stories that take me into a different world other my own—A world I hope others will enjoy as well.
My first novel—Uncorked was published in February of 2013. My second, Love, Lies & The D.A. was released on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. "

What are you working on now?

"Since my newest novel Love, Lies & The D.A. was just released, my focus right now is on promoting it.
I have started thinking about my next novel and putting my ideas down on paper, but I have not begun writing yet."

3 things we should know about you or your books?

"1. I enjoy writing about strong and independent women, of course, they will have vulnerabilities but I like my female characters to be in control of their lives, and not depend on the male lead in the book to do that for them.
2. My characters aren't all saints, so you can expect colorful language to be used at times.
3. While my books won't fall into the erotica category, the sex scenes are explicit."

Advice you would give anyone wanting to write a book?

This is a learning process for me, but this is what I've learned.

It's hard work writing a book. It’s even harder getting it out there and getting it noticed. Be organized and be prepared for sleepless nights.

Nothing will come easy. You will knock on many doors and be told NO many times, but don’t give up.

You will be criticized, sometimes nicely, other times harshly (Sometimes critics forget authors are human beings too) but try to grow a thick skin as quickly as possible. No matter how great a novel you and others feel you have written. You will never be able to make everyone happy. Someone will always have something negative to say—Focus on the positive, learn from the negative. I those moments of difficulty, you may become angry; you may even cry but never allow the opinion of others to become your reality.

Never give up, and always remember those that have supported you, from family members, to bloggers and fans we need their support to succeed.

Anything else you would like to say?

"Thank you Alissa for this wonderful opportunity. Without support from bloggers like you, our lives as authors would be more difficult.
Thank you for your support and featuring me and my work on your blog this week."
