If you're looking for a story that will capture your heart and have you guessing at every page turn, Covered in Coal is the book for you. Silla Webb has outdone herself in this debut novel. She gives it to you upfront that there is a cliffhanger, and that the way she wrote the dialogue is true to how they speak, I was so glad to see that it was laid out upfront. With that said, I was still like WTF at the end, but I totally understand and don't mind.
Carly Jo, when turning to her father for some much needed words of advice at the young age of 17 leads her down a road of feeling like she's only got herself to count on causing her to run away from Kentucky. After Carly Jo returns to her hometown after being gone for 7 yrs, nothing could have prepared her for all the curveballs life plans to throw her way. Carrying a secret of her own, can she overcome a shattered heart and a loss so great that what she stands to gain tests not only her strength but will also have her questioning everything she thought she knew.
Colton Weston, the boy who shattered Carly Jo's heart. He's strong, sexy and such an Alpha that just from reading his words on a page made me want to obey! Will the secrets that he carries himself hinder the chance at regaining Carly Jo's love? Not prepared for the challenge he's faced with when Carly proves to still be as stubborn as ever, he'll have to work overtime to win her over.
Savannah, Carly Jo's sister is great, as was the character of Luke and Heidi Jo. I adore Colton's parents.
Throughout this book, I was intrigued at the design that showed up in breaks of the story, and towards the end of the book that design made perfect sense after reading the following quote.
"When two people are meant for each other, no time is too long, no distance is too far, no one can ever tear them apart. You are my infinity, my always, my forever."
